Ein zu Unrecht völlig unterschätztes Werk
Ich habe mittlerweile ein gutes Dutzend Bemalanleitungen von diversen anderen bekannten Miniaturenverlagen, und da sind auch tolle Sachen dabei. Obwohl ich dachte, fast alles zu haben und zu kennen, habe ich mir das Buch hier auch noch zugelegt, und ich muss sagen, es hat sich gelohnt. Ein unschätzbarer Vorteil dieses Werkes: es ist keine Werbebroschüro von Vallejo, sondern stellt die aus Sicht des Autors besten Komponenten diverser Hersteller vor. Klar, das meiste, was er benutzt, ist von Vallejo, aber auch von GW und diversen anderen Anbietern verwendet er Kleber, Modelliermasse, FX und natürlich Modelle. Obwohl ich vorwiegen WFB und 40K anmale und das Buch fast keine dieser Modelle enthält, ist es gerade wegen seiner diskriminierungsfreien Offenheit eine geniale Erweiterung meines Horizonts. Ganz viele ungewöhnliche Tipps (z.B. für künstliches Wasser) warten hier, viele davon habe ich mir vorher selbst schon mühsam erschließen müssen, weil die anderen Anbieter immer denselben Kram schreiben und dabei wichtige Details gar nicht mehr erwähnen. Ansonsten ist das Buch toll bebildert und sehr gut erklärt. Vor allem findet sich am Ende eine Tabelle, anhand derer man Vallejo-Farben gegen alte oder neue GW - Farben austauschen kann. Auf so einen Service kann man bei der Konkurrenz (hallo GW!) lange warten...

Great presentation of inspiring pieces!
Wow, this book was exactly the type of material I was looking for! I've seen some of these diorama pictures online, was looking through Amazon for miniature painting guides and took a chance on this. I frequently use Vallejo paint products, and own the Angel Giraldez Vol 1 book as well. This guide is slightly different from Angel's book, as it explains the scratch construction of some of these amazing pieces. (And doesn't focus so much on airbrushing/edge highlighting.) There are lots of useful tips and ideas on how to integrate water effects, putty carvings, wood, etc in to creating fantasy bases/dioramas. The author is also an obviously talented painter (more of the artistic European style than the old-school standard Kevin Dallimore factory line method.) and goes over many examples of fleshtones, ground, and fur. While the painting is not exactly step-by-step, it's presented at a pace and level that's just right for where I'm at within my own hobby. The photos within are of a really great quality, and it's easy to see the detail and follow along with some of the color tinting the author uses. Vallejo needs more of these style books! This is going to be one of those go-to guides for quite a few things!

Excellent book on figures, dioramas and settings
This is an amazing book. While there is plenty of painting tips and lessons in here, there's also a lot of good practical modeling to creating backgrounds and diorama settings from scratch. I've been building more and more figure kits over the years, and I always find myself making a base for them. But this book gives me a of ideas and techniques I will find useful in the future on may projects. The book is full color, with stunning visual photographs. Step by step procedures are followed through to the end of a finished project. The figures are varied, from a Conan type model, to fantasy creatures, to women, sea creatures, children, and 18th century characters. But the strong model making used for constructing the diorama and background settings are unique to this book, and put it above the usual figure painting book. If you want to take your figure models to the next modeling level, this book will help you get there.
