There are four cardboard “presents” to open in the set, with one holding Barbie herself. The other three have designs that look like they’re tied with bows. The bottoms of the “presents” have fun designs that look like makeup. Everything can be opened neatly with scissors, or they can be opened more quickly by using the perforations. If you use scissors, each of the “presents” can be separated and reused. I opened the blue “present” first. Inside is a lovely plastic chest, large enough to hold quite a few Barbie accessories. The latch isn’t very secure though, so if you store little earrings in it or something else that can get lost easily, the chest should be kept upright. Inside the chest are a silver clutch with a handle, a pair of silver bow earrings, and a pair of lovely pink pumps. Second, I opened the purple “present.” inside was a pink paper pouch containing a purple shawl and a silver necklace. Third, I opened the pink “present.” Inside was what looked like a giant plastic lipstick with a cat at the top enclosed in jelly. The “lipstick” part was removable from the base. Finally, I opened the last “present,” the one with the doll in it. She comes with a mask on, making her look a bit alien. The liner slid out easily. it took just a few snips to release the doll from the box. In this box were the doll, her towel wrap, her turban, her facemask, and instructions. Under the towel, Barbie wears a permanent purple bodysuit. She has rotational movement at the neck, plus articulation at the shoulders, elbows, hips, and knees. She has no articulation at the wrists or ankles. Her feet aren’t quite flat or high heeled, more designed for kitten heels. Her turban is held on with two plastic tags, but no other plastic tags held her to the box. There was also a rubber band across her face, holding on the mask. Neither the mask nor the rubber band left marks on her face. The plastic tags came out easily, simply by pulling off her turban. Removing the accessories revealed a beautiful doll with pale lips and pale purple streaked blonde hair. I put her in the freezer for a moment to test out the color change ability. She then had dark lips and dark purple streaked hair. Now that I had the instructions, I could see that the jelly stuff was just there for fun and didn’t really do anything else. So I removed the plastic seal and attempted to free the kitty cat. The jelly wouldn’t come out. So I used a screwdriver to coax it out. It then came out mostly in one piece. The jelly seemed unnecessarily messy since it doesn’t really do anything. When you start to play with it, it just comes apart into little jelly shards. I quickly threw it away before it could become a slightly oily mess. The cat inside is utterly adorable. it’s itty-bitty, probably 1“ x 1“, about the size of Barbie’s hand. Almost everything fits in the treasure chest, including all the accessories, Barbies outfit, and her pet. The turban and the plastic base from the “lipstick” don’t fit, though. The base from the lipstick makes kind of a cute cat bed. Next, I dressed Barbie in her outfit. The towel wrap is reversible, so she now has a pink party dress. Because it has toweling on the inside, it’s thick and doesn’t drape well. I guess she wears it to fancy parties when it’s cold outside. It has velcro down the back, so it’s very easy to put on. Her kitten-heeled shoes fit well, and her earrings fit perfectly. Her earrings are easy to insert, but they don’t fall out and get lost easily either. It took a little dexterity to get her necklace on, but it wasn’t too bad. It seems like it would be a better fit for a Barbie with a slimmer neck. The shawl doesn’t have velcro or anything, so it has to be slipped over her head. The end result is a very pretty Barbie in a cute outfit. Overall, I think the set is an excellent value at the current price. You get a beautiful articulated doll, accessories, and the fun color change features. Plus you get a pet and a storage chest. The only thing I would rethink is the jelly. it’s not really pliable like slime. It’s just kind of messy.
