Takes time
These little kits are absolutely adorable. This pet shop is no exception. They do take time to assemble but with the right tools it isn't difficult. There is lots of cutting and pasting in this kit. However, a bonus is the tiny leaves for some of the plants are partially cut out already, you just have to paste them together. Lots of detail. This is not a simple snap-together type book nook kit, you have to take a little bit more time for these and paste things together. It did not include glue at all. I do suggest a couple of different types of glue. First I would use a fast setting superglue type wood glue for the wood pieces since it could be aggravating to wait for them to cure. Something quick curing is best. Just make sure you have everything lined up before you put pressure on the two pieces. Otherwise you'll have wonky items, lol. Also a B – 7000 type glue or clear craft glue that takes a little longer to cure for pieces you may need to adjust. The third type is a spray adhesive for the large paper pieces to adhere to the wood pieces such as floors, wallpapers, etc. these kits are time-consuming and take several days but the end result is worth it. In particular, this one's instruction booklet is fantastic – it uses actual pictures that are very clear and precise. Sometimes they use color but they can get muddled because they're illustrations, but not in this case. I can't wait to finish this one and I will update my review with pictures and any issues I faced when I do.

Very cute, more time consuming than anticipated but end result is lovely.
I enjoyed putting this together although it was more time consuming than other similar miniature kits. Or maybe I'm just slower as I age? I am definitely ARetentive and need to sand down all the wood burrs so that adds time. And I color the sanded bits with a marker so they match. Upon writing this I realize I'm not a good indicator for how long this takes to complete. There were no missing pieces at all which is always (and quite obviously) helpful. The wood parts pop out easily for the most part. Some tinier bits do take some finesse. None broke though. The cutting tiny circles to place on the various props probably took the longest and was the most tedious. I don't mind cutting paper items as it's part of the build, but it's the repetitiveness I dislike. For the many particularly small, round pieces, I would have preferred stickers The instructions were easy enough to follow. There were a couple of snafus which didn't look right from the instructional pictures, but were easy enough to figure out regardless. That and the last steps feel rushed. I felt like each step showed what to do until it was time to place the final pieces. The final image of it all out together was the guide at that point. The wood did not warp when glue was applied. But I honestly have only had that issue once out of 30+ mini houses or book nooks. It's thin but seemed durable. The size is as listed but be warned. There are tiny pieces involved and takes patience and a steady hand. Overall I found this fun and love the end result. It is cute and looks great displayed. As for the lighting, it requires those flat, round batteries that are not commonly something most have laying around. I didn't have any and unless I happen across them for cheap, this pet store will remain with a permanent power cut.

Patience Needed
This Pet Shop book nook has a lot of nice details. Those details require a lot of patience. The kit is for 14+, and I would say that is appropriate. Most of the items in the Pet Shop have to be completely constructed by hand. The bags of pet food, the cans of pet food, the boxes, plates, etc. are made of folded paper, you will need to cut them out and then glue them together. So, if you don't have glue, you should order some. I primarily used B-7000 glue with a needle tip because that was what I had with a small needle tip. Basically, any items in the pet shop made from paper, will require cutting and glue, there are no stickers. The floor surfaces are also paper and have to be cut out and glued to the wood, this wouldn't be a big deal except that you have to cut out the narrow slats for the walls to slip into the base and that is not fun. I'm pretty sure I spent 3 hours cutting out pieces and glueing them together. I try to build these to relax and this one did not allow me to do that since I was worried about cutting out teeny tiny pieces of paper. Also, don't use super glue on most of the things, it dries too fast and the pieces are too small. The rope toys are made from paper twine, the kit includes black WTT tube, which is heat shrinking, to put around the rope. I didn't want to use a lighter by the paper twine, so I cut thin strips of electrical tape and wrapped it around the twine. The kit I received was missing whatever material was needed to make the green rope, so I used a green pipe cleaner instead. The rope toys go on wire hooks that you build from black wire and black beads. The wire I received was too big to go into the opening of all but one of the beads. Luckily, I had some smaller gauge black wire that I used instead of the included wire. Definitely make sure the wire will fit in the beads before you start gluing those down. The instructions are adequate, they are all pictures with only references to the part number being used. Icons used were a glue bottle and scissors. The problem I ran into was that some parts had to be cut down into smaller pieces, but the instructions weren't always clear what exactly was supposed to be cut in a step and sometimes, the measurement for the part wasn't immediately obvious, so definitely looks closely at the instructions when using the twine or wire for different steps. The instructions were not clear where the battery pack/controller for the light went and how it was accessible. The instructions show sticking it in a compartment that is behind the bookshelf and is accessible from the bottom of the Pet Shop, the issue is, there isn't an easy way to turn the light on if you stick the controller in there. Definitely need clearer instructions for this step. I would suggest that the manufacturer come up with a better method for turning on the light, as of right now, I have to reach under the Pet Shop and toggle the switch, which is super tiny. Honestly, I'm giving this kit 4 stars because its a nice kit when finished, which makes up for a lot of the struggles I had with it. I wish I had been more prepared for the tediousness of cutting out all of the pieces.

Fun kit, a lot of room for making it your own
This is a fun kit that you make a cute pet shop. I'm still working on it but it's a lot of fun. The instruction booklet is not so large but easy to follow with step-by-step pictures. It'll be handy to have a small ruler with metrics graduation on it since all lengths are written on millimeter/centimeter. Also you'll need some good glue. I'm using Elmer's glue, epoxy glue and also double-sided tape. Pieces are relatively easy to push out of the boards, but furniture pieces tend to have a small splint or small break on the surface. You can prevent it by using a cutter. There are many small accessory items you need to make with your hands for details. That's the part I enjoy the most, but those who prefer a 3D-puzzle kit that you simply put together pieces you punch out of boards may find it frustrating. Most of the pieces/panels fit together. Some I had to use an emery board to sand or shave their surface with a knife. So far I've spent probably about 20 hours so far. I finished making small stuff and putting windows on wall panels. While putting wall panels together to complete it I decided that I wanted to change a few things and took apart the wall panels. To add some carpet to the cat tower and the dog house, I used some leftover felt. I also pasted some upholstery fabric on the floor panel. It will be cute to make just as the instruction has it, and it's fun to add/change details.

Intricate details!
This miniature house project is for people who are very detail oriented. It is not a quick snap everything together project, and... Voila! It's done! There are many tiny parts that require cutting, folding, sanding, glueing, and assembling. All the parts are included included to make this cute pet shop, but you need to provide your own cutting tools, different kinds of glues, and 2 thin CR2032 6v round batteries. I suggest using a sharp cutting blade, small sharp scissors, a ruler, needle and thread, and have paper towels on hand for cleaning up glue drips. You will want to protect your work surface and have good lighting. The instruction manual has lots of step by step pictures to show how to assemble all the miniature items. I am looking forward to doing this fun project with my adult daughter who loves miniatures!
