Teaches How Rubik's Cubes Are Solved! (And Some Set Theory Concepts)
The 2x2 cube is MUCH easier to solve, to the point you'll have a better understanding of how other Rubik's cubes are solved, esp. the 3x3. This cube is incredibly smooth and good for learning how to speed race solving cubes.

Road Trip Toy
Great way to learn the initial algorithms for solving the more complex 3x3 rubic cube. The sides move seamlessly and effortlessly, they do not get stuck at all. This helped keep my kids entertained on a long road trip. They got frustrated a few times, but overall had fun and a real sense of accomplishment once they solved it!

Save yourself the trouble and find one with magnets
While the 2x2 Speed Cube is an improvement over the standard 2x2 from Rubik's, save yourself the trouble and go with a magnetic 2x2 from another brand. I found that I actively avoid using this cube because am extremely dissatisfied with how it feels in my hand. It feels cheap and loose. I like the Rubik's Speed 3x3, but that is mostly from the satisfying feeling from spinning the layers and feeling it lock into place with the magnets.
