The Atom Lives
Great figure. I haven't read too much on Ray Palmer the Atom, but several things have caught my eye. First in the comics he inherits a major story angle which involved the murder of a friends wife known as the Identity Crisis. This and the ensuing aftermath in The Blackest Night made him a great character to read about and to collect as an action figure. I already bought the figure of him as an Indigo Lantern and was all ready to purchase him in his original incarnation... but I still had other figures to collect and Ray Palmer in his original form didn't rank high enough. Until I found out the CW had finally adapted him into the TV series Arrow, though not as big a fan of the show I do like the fact that he's been depicted by Superman Returns actor Brandon Routh, who brought out a great character - though not exactly the same man as he is in the comic I still love the attempt. Ranked much higher I made the purchase and I am glad to get it, its still missing a few things. He needs his smaller self, that's what makes him so great a character, the ability to shrink the distance between atoms and making him mighty and strong at the fraction of his size. Still its a nice figure - and it has the right arm necessary to complete the Collect & Connect Metallo.

Goes Great with my Two Showcase Volumes
I really didn't know much about the Atom before I stumbled across the Silver Age reprints in DC Showcase Presents the Atom volumes 1 and 2. Who knew the world's smallest superhero could pack a big punch and be involved in such fun stories? This sent me on a search for an Atom action figure in his original costume. This figure is unique in that, when the Atom is at his "normal" reduced height he is six inches tall. How tall is this figure? You guessed it- six inches. It's like having the Atom right there with you. The articulation is good, the face sculpt is just right, and I like the mix of blue and red. My only beef would be that the paint could be a bit brighter than it is. Still, it's great to have nice figure of a character that has existed for over 50 years that I just recently discovered. Great job, Mattel!

Small Atom!!
The Atom figure has an excellent head sculpt, but I wish Mattel would have also included a small 4inch Atom instead of the Metallo part that I don't need. I gave this figure only a 3 star for this reason and for the fact that Mattel could have just as easily used a body without the plug in the back for the wings, none of my other figures from Mattel have it.
