Lovely Decoration - Some Assembly Required
Lovely piece now sitting on my buffet hutch! My only issues (minimal for myself but maybe more important for others?) are difficulty of assembly and a note about the painted colours not being quite what I expected based on the photo. Arrived safely packed in custom styrofoam. Assembly required on customer's end which is fine-- but it was very, very difficult to screw the metal stand into the base (the screw part started off protruding from the base but after the first time I tried to screw the stand overtop of it (and pulled it off again as it was too tight and just wasn't working-- I decided to stop and reassess) the screw came off with it, wedged *into* the metal stand, so from there on out it was a matter of screwing the screw back into the base *via* the stand (and once it hit the base of the stand I guess it went back to the stand screwing overtop of it again). With nothing really to grip onto (slippery metal stand and such a tight fit) it took a crazy amount of time and effort, but maybe someone with proper tools could achieve this more easily? I was just hesitant to use any kind of tool as I didn't want to scratch the metal stand. Ultimately I did manage it though, and I guess I'd rather extra-sturdy than loose, as far as the stand goes. One other note (maybe it's just the individual stand I got, not sure if it's an issue with others) is that the stand just barely holds the magnifying glass head-up in the position you set it to; mine is very tempted to tip itself head-down, and I haven't found a way to tighten it such that this is resolved. There is a screw-in knob that seems designed for this purpose but it does not allow itself to go tight enough for that. Ironic, given the crazy trouble I had with how tight the rest of the stand was. Ultimately this isn't a real problem for me as I'm using mine as decoration above head height and out of the way of anything that might bump it, but if you plan it for a desk, it may be an issue if an arm (or bumped table) makes the glass rotate suddenly head-down. One other note is that the painting job is really minimal on this-- less vibrant than what it looks like in the photo. It's really just a little white and green paint that's applied in the areas you see in the photo-- any rosy or pinkish appearance is just a darker part of the wood itself. But it still works really well for my room based on what I was looking for! So overall I give this product 4 Stars :)
