Here's what can be built with this expansion
With just one Heroscape Lands of Valhalla expansion, a 258 hex map can be created that measures 25" x 30" and shows how just the one expansion provides enough terrain for a full playable map. There was enough extra terrain to make a small hill. My only complaint is that tolerances on Heroscape tiles aren't perfect and can be very tight sometimes making disassembly of some connections difficult. Tolerances don't have to be tight. They just have to hold the terrain together on a tabletop so that the tiles aren't shifting and moving out of place during play. The expansion provides 68 Grass hexes, 95 Rock hexes, and 95 Sand hexes for a total of 258 hexes. It's hard to say if this expansion is needed. The Age of Annihilation Master Set has 330 hexes of terrain. The main advantage is getting more sand with 2 24-hex plates since the Master Set has none. The Master Set focuses on grass with 200 hexes with 6 24-hex plates (144 hexes). There are additional multi-hex plates. The Master Set only has a singe 3-hex plate for rock and sand. The expansion provides 2 more for those terrains. If someone simply wants modular terrain without the Heroscape game, this is a cheaper entry with nearly as many hexes at half the price of the Master Set. I have a couple tips to safeguard the tiles. Do not connect two 24-hex plates. Put 1-hex tiles between them because it will be easier to push them out than to try to pull two big plates apart. If a connection feels too tight, don't press them together. Add a light coat of petroleum jelly to lubricate the two surfaces.
