Well done.
Very nice kit. Engraved panel detail, little to no flash, overall nice kit. Well done Airfix!

Very Nice clean fitting, crisp detailing.
Real beauty of a kit. The current Airfix offerings within the past couple years have come MILES from where they were. Quickly becoming a contender to several of the long time Well known big names in Model kits. The detailing is very crisp and sharp. Panel lines and surface demarcations could stand to be a very tiny bit more to scale but this does not by any means go to say that they are ANYwhere near the garish misaligned trenches of the earlier Airfix years. The engineering on this kit is such that it has every control surface cast as seperate pieces, so that it can be displayed in a variety of flight or landed positions accurately, two different cockpit glazing options. Closed, or hinged and open. Nose bay can be positioned closed or open, with a complete Avionics/Electronics bay represented nicely as is, or some personal detailing can be added to punch it up. All in all, it's a nicely engineered kit with very clean and tight fitting assembly. This 1/48 Gnat is not simply the 1/72 scale kit Pantagraphed up. It has better detailing and nicer display options.

Not bad
It was a good build, the plastic is very crisp, there is no flash, the instructions are great, the cockpit detail is wonderful, and the panel lines are nicely recessed. But I did have some issues with the fuselage fit at the models underside, it took a fair amount of filler to take care of, but the rest of the model went together very well. The control surfaces and flaps come in separate pieces, and an open canopy and avionics hatch is available. Although even in 1/48 scale the model is smaller than a Bf109 in the same scale, the kit comes out to an impressive model.

Gnat a bad little kit
The Folland Gnat was introduced to the RAF in 1962 as an intermediate jet trainer. Originally conceived as a small agile dogfighter, the RAF never used it in that role (the Indian Air Force did, however, and found it excellent). It was also used as an aerobatic display aeroplane and served it's time with the Red Arrows. It's worth pointing out just HOW small this little jet was: smaller than a Spitfire and only just about as big as a Sopwith Camel (in wingspan, at least). Now, for a jet fighter, that's small! Consequently, in 1/48 scale, this little chap will top out with a wing span of around 15cm - compare that with the English Electric Lightning's 23cm - and so will take up almost no room on your shelves. It really is a superlative little kit, despite its size. The slightly matt grey styrene is molded with some (for Airfix) very fine engraved panel lines and in total about 90 parts. The detail is surprising for a kit of this size. Each ejector seat comprises 7 parts alone, and it is possible to build it with two versions of the seat-pan cushion - plain for if the pilot is added, or with molded-in webbing belts if the driver is omitted. Similarly there are two canopies provided - one if you're posing it open and one if closed. The instrument panel has the dials molded in, so that you can paint them on if you like (a decal is provided if you like a simple life) and - get this - the avionics bay in the nosecone is fully detailed - not something you often see in Airfix's 1/48 kits. Fit is fantastic and filler is unlikely to be needed but you will almost certainly need to weight the nose if you're building this to sit on its undercarriage. This is perhaps not the simplest of builds, but neither is it solely in the realm of the expert modeller. A nice touch is that the upper are molded in one piece so there will be no struggling to set them at the correct angle of dihedral. The instruction booklet is clear and unambiguous and a detailed decal sheet is provided to allow you to finish the kit in two schemes; red, white and grey or orange and silver. If you're painting the latter, you will need to buy the correct shade of orange . This is an impressive kit - possibly one of Airfix's better 1/48 offerings. Airfix also do a version of the kit that allows you to finish it as a Red Arrows plane and you can also buy this little fellow in the smaller 1/72 scale .

Ottimo kit
Plastiche ben rifinite piacevoli al tatto e praticamente esenti da sbavature e ritiri, molto ben dettagliato per una realizzazione da scatola

Great Kit
I have been waiting 40 years for this kit to appear in 1/48. Airfix have done it again - the modern kits are exceptional. A high level of detail in this kit, well moulded. Looks great on the sprues, will see how it goes as I build it.

beautifully engineered and moulded
In every respect this is a first class modern kit, beautifully engineered and moulded. Airfix is producing the best models now that it has ever produced.
