Mechanical Awesomeness!!!
I've always liked K'NEX as a toy, but there's also something to be said for it's use as a rapid-prototyping tool. There's no cutting, measuring or gluing so adjustment is always just a snap or click away plus it's easy to incorporate gears, motors, and other mechanical elements. When I first saw the front image of the Crypto Crank, I had to see for myself if it really was a Gatling blaster... Well, I got my answer-it absolutely is! The lead build is honestly kind of insane-you mount it on your shoulder and rotate a handle, which spins 3 different gears. This activates a cam mechanism which pushes the darts out of the magazine in-between 2 motorized flywheels. The flywheels grab the dart and send it out the front chamber at hurtling speeds! The lead model in the instructions does take some time to put together, but there are also 5 other models that can be built from the pieces you get that are simpler to assemble. They all function very differently and you can even build different targets to practice firing on. Definitely worth buying and I know some young kids that may be getting this set or others from the Cyber-X line this Christmas!

BUILD and BLAST! TONS of FUN!
I bought this item as a gift and the child just loves it! He had so much fun building it and even more fun blasting with it! He was so exited to see that you can take it apart and build other designs. HOURS OF FUN! I just purchased another one to donate to our firehouse toy drive.

Fun but wobbly
Fun to put together and the boy who loves tinkering loved it. However the shooting of the darts is a little tough for a 7year old. The plays to spin is on the left side which is tough for a right hander.

Great Building Set that Incorporates Mechanical Principles and Encourages Problem Solving!
This is a quality building set that really demonstrates mechanical principles like gear interactions, cams, levers, and rotational and linear movement while working towards the end result of something really fun and cool. The lead model is challenging to build and will take some time, but it's absolutely worth it-bonus is that there's an online video that goes through troubleshooting which was a really helpful resource The alt builds online are a really great way to start if you have a beginner to K'NEX. All in all, I would highly recommend!

Doesn't work
I got this for Christmas for my 11 yo son. We spent a couple hours building it together, which was fun. But the thing doesn't work. I'm an engineer, so I'm pretty good at putting things together. We built it right. The motor runs, but doesn't pick up the bullets when you crank the handle. Don't know if I just got a defective one, or if it's a design flaw. Frustrating to give a gift, spend hours building it, with my son looking forward to using it, only to find out it doesn't do squat.
