A worthwhile project
This wasn’t a gift or an Easter decoration, I got this for myself as a craft that I could actually hang on my sundeck for the local bird population. I got it just before leaving for a month’s stay with a friend in Japan who helped me create some sketches that I could work from to come up with an Asian look. I’m no artist so it took time and patience but the final project looks homemade. I’m not sure if that’s a compliment or not. WHAT YOU GET This kit comes with precut wooden components that you assemble yourself. You may paint the pieces individually or after assembly depending on your painting skills and dexterity. For a finished item that will withstand birds actually using it, cleaning it and local weather you might choose to use some wood glue to strengthen it. In the kit you also get several vials of a variety of paint colors and some brushes and design ideas. You can also use your own paints if you have them. Some users may choose to paint the entire structure after assemble to seal the joints then paint their design over the base coat – it’s your project, do what your creative fancy leads you to do. YES NO MAYBE If National Geographic lends its name to something like this I have confidence that it will be a worthwhile product. Sure the quality of materials aren’t meant to build a birdhouse that will last forever but it can be used outdoors in a covered area if you coat the finished painted project with a good grade of clear epoxy, just be sure to use a non-toxic paint that won’t be harmful to birds who may like to peck on it.

Cute Craft, Functional Birdhouse?
This birdhouse kit makes for a fun and engaging craft activity; the pre-cut pieces snap together easily and the included paints allow for creative decoration. However, I'm not sure it's sturdy enough or appropriately sized for birds to actually use. The entrance hole seems too large for small songbirds (which could allow predators in) and the thin wood doesn't provide adequate protection from the elements. While my daughter enjoyed the crafting experience and educational bird poster, I'd consider this more of an arts and crafts project rather than a functional birdhouse for attracting actual birds to your yard.

Fun project to pass time
Nice and quick project to keep the kids busy. It comes with the birdhouse and paint and that was good enough if you needed a project of the kids to pass the time. It also make a nice gift for kids too if they are into that sort of thing. i wish more was included to make the value a little bit more appealing but it was nice overall.

This was such a cute craft kit! It inspired my toddler son to ask a lot of questions
This was such a cute craft kit! It inspired my toddler son to ask a lot of questions regarding birds and where they live, plus, he painted the bird house a few separate times! It will need sealing if we are going to use it outside, so just know that the kit doesn't come with that sealing material.

Review the age range and manual
Let's start that a 6yo would have destroyed this during construction. I almost destroyed this during construction and my 9yo got stuck in such a way we had to disassemble and assemble it differently. It's not designed wrong, but the order of operations didn't work well such as attempting to thread the string through after the roof and walls were on. That would have been a pain. Instructions being meh aside, all the rest was fun once my kiddo got past her frustration. She wanted to assemble it, but it was going to break with her attempts at applying force. The box claims no tools required... no, you're going to need a knife or pointy object of poking to get through the plastic. We will be deploying this to the front yard in two days. Supposed to have a wind event tonight so going to not attempt to deploy the ultra-light birdhouse in a hurricane. I'll update when the first tenants move in

Great spring project!
This was a gift for my 10yo in her easter basket, and it ended up being a huge hit with her. She's very artistic as well as an animal lover, so this was right up her alley. It was pretty easy to assemble, she asked for a little help, which made for a fun daddy/daughter project, but she did most of it herself. Once assembled she did an amazing job of painting it before we hung it out by our shed. Sure enough about a week later we had a small bird take up residence, and there are now eggs being tended to. Daughter checks the eggs daily patiently waiting for babies. So I'd say this one is a win!

Easy Project, Cute Birdhouse
My girls (ages 3 & 5) really enjoyed painting their birdhouse! I like how the pieces snap together and don't require a hammer and nails; they snapped together easily. We painted the components while unassembled to prevent fighting since this was a family project. We used the included paints (and brush) and added a few more from our craft supplies. The bird watching journal that is included is made of slick paper which will make writing on it more difficult. The poster is a nice addition. Overall, this is a great, easy to make birdhouse kit that kept my girls entertained on a rainy afternoon. We're going to hang this outside their bedroom window, and we're excited to watch the birds!
