Pretty, Inexpensive, and Writes Nicely
I have been writing with fountain pens for a while, and I only recently started working with glass dip pens. This is not my first dip pen, but it is definitely the prettiest I have used. It’s a nice pen that works well for me. The pen comes packed in bubble wrap and has a sleeve over the end to protect it during shipping. My pen arrived in good condition and was ready to use as soon as I received it. Fountain pen inks and dip pen inks are different, though you can use a dip pen with fountain pen ink. For a quick test (since this was within an arm’s reach) I used a bottle of Parker Quink black ink which I have used with some of my fountain pens, and this seems to work acceptably. I did not completely submerge the whole tip into the ink well, but instead I only dipped it about half-way. This gave enough ink to write 30-40 words before I needed to dip it again. I wasn’t trying to write calligraphy; I was more interested in getting familiar with the pen. Dry, this pen is on the scratchy side and I was not optimistic. Once it had ink on the tip, though, the pen was smoother and compared well to a fountain pen with a fine nib – not buttery, but smoother than a pencil. As I write this, the pen is selling for $7. That seems very much in line with others I have seen and used. It is neither the most nor the least expensive; for an individual pen, it is about average, and it is certainly not an expensive pen regardless. This is a decent pen and I am pleased with it. It writes nicely, it’s pretty, and it is not cost prohibitive.
