Plastic re-railers do not work 100% as pushing locomotives by hand does not always work. With this device placed on top of rails, you are able to fit even the longet of locomotives on the re-railer and then slowly turn the dial on your power pack and you'll see the engine move forward in a continuous motion till ending up perfectly aligned on the track. Wish the device was avalable in Z gauge. We bought two N scale re-railers so we could convert one to Z gauge. If cut at the 2/3rd mark, you'll end up with the right length for engines in different length: shorter and longer ones. Here is how to convert: 1. remove plastic guide. 2. cut at 2/3rd mark 3. Shave off enough aluminum width of each half, so that the rail groove lign up with z gauge track width. 4. You are done shaving when there is a gap between both halves as both halves rest on their respective rails of a piece of track. Keep shaving if there is no gap. 5. Re-attach the plastic center guide When satisfied with sufficient gap width and and perfect alignment of both rail grooves. 6. Time to test the NEW device..

Save your money!!
This product does not work very well. It does not fit close enough to the tracks to enable the locomotive to have a smooth transition from rerailer to track. Therefore the locomotive sits with the front trucks on the tracks and rear on the rerailer, with the rear wheels spinning. In my opinion, this product is not worth the money.

Great for all engines
All ready used it to get my N-scale Challenger on the tracks and it worked, drove we it right on to the tracks.

Will not work on Code 55 rail
The slots in the Aluminum are too deep for Code 55 Rail. The design is outstanding but as it is, it is not a universal ramp. The slots are deeper then the rail is tall, resulting in no contact with the rail and no electrical flow to run the engine. A slight redesign would result in a universal ramp.
