Solidly made wooden toy. Better than Melissa and Doug Wooden Set
As my daughter was growing up, the holy grail for toy ice cream sets was the Melissa and Doug magnetic ice cream sets. Our local children's museum had these and kids would play for hours and hours. For some reason Melissa and Doug doesn't make one of these "Ice Cream Counter" sets using their magnetic ice cream; theirs is wooden like RoseArt's. I actually prefer RoseArt's to Melissa and Doug's for a few reason: 1) It's a lot more colorful. The awning is really cute, just like a little ice cream stand. While Melissa and Doug went for more realism, RoseArt went all out with bright, vibrant colors (you will need to use your imagination to make up flavors for the colors). 2) It's more versatile. There are three cones where you can stack one, two, or three different "scoops", and different colors and sizes for the "scoops". There's a lot of opportunity to teach basic skills like counting and combinations. 3) It's simpler. While Melissa and Doug's set comes with a scooper (which is not as easy to use as their magnetic one) and "toppings", this one is a lot simpler; just use your hands to put the ice cream onto the cone. The one gripe I have is that it can be difficult for a child (or a grown-up) to get the "scoop" onto the "stick" of the ice cream cone; some little children might get frustrated when they put the "scoop" on and it doesn't go down when they try to push it down (a grown up will have to help them make sure it's centered properly and then gently twist it down). On the bright side, that's a good opportunity to help them develop fine motor skills. I also wish it came with play money and a menu, like Melissa and Doug's has. You really can't go wrong between these two. I'd trust either of these brands' products much, much more than a lot of the copycat products you see which might be cheaper, but who knows how safe they are. Overall, not a bad playset. Calling it a STEAM product may be pushing it a bit, but it's true that toddlers and young children can practice very basic math skills using something everybody loves.

Sturdy but could be better designed.
This is a really cute pretend play set. The pieces feel sturdy and well made, the paint job is fairly good. I like that it included a bowl for a non-cone ice cream option. The plates are pretty weird, who's putting ice cream on plates? In my opinion, a huge design flaw with this set is the storage. The "ice cream counter" has little compartments, some obvious what they're for, like the plates. But not everything fits in a space, so when you're cleaning things up some of it inevitably ends up just tossed on top. I call this a flaw because one, it looks messy, and two it makes it hard to track what pieces may or may not be missing when you're cleaning everything up. Some of this could have easily been solved by having cutouts on the top to hold the ice cream cones or the spoons, etc. I also feel like the ice cream are only meant to be arranged one way due to the cone designs, which really limits imaginative play. It also means, if you don't stack the cone the ideal way, you end up with a weird stick cone. Definitely stifles creative freedom, see weird stick cone photo I posted. Overall, it's a cute set, but definitely has room for improvement.

My nieces played with this for HOURS!
When my own kids were small, I have an uncle who always picked the very best Christmas presents for them. He always sent simple, non-electronic toys like nesting stacking cups, that my girls would play with for ever. In fact, many of the toys he sends over the years are the ones we've still saved so that no our younger nieces play with them when they come over. In fact, I teased my uncle that he should open his own toy catalog because he had such a knack for picking toys that kids would actually play with. When I saw these, I was reminded of the toys My uncle used to send. Once the set arrived, my hunch was confirmed - I was exactly right! I'm certainly no expert, but I think that if you want to raise smart, well-rounded kids it's important to let them play with simple things that force them to use their imagination. Toys like this certainly fit the bill. I'm impressed not only with the quality of this product, but also with the thought that went into designing it. I wouldn't hesitate to buy anything else from this product line.
