Fun game for the entire family
This Haba Mixalotl game is a lot of fun and will give your family lots of laughs. My kids had lots of laughs creating names for the mixed up animals we create at the start of the game and making the animal sounds during the game. When drawing a card from the pile you have to find the mixed up animal that matches the card but the animal sound that you make is the animal that is mixed up with the animal you are searching for. The instructions provide directions for the game and a clear visual example so it makes it easier to understand. It is a fast-paced game so it might take a little time for small kids to get the hang of it. This game does get competitive so it helps to teach children friendly competition.

Fun, attention keeping
This game is fast paced, but easy to learn. Young kids might need reminders of the rules in phase 2 at first. My family was cracking up at the idea of silly hybrid animals, and the sounds they might make (or not make). I like the easy set up and ean up, and durability of the pieces. Artwork is really charming. Very engaging gameplay.

nice variation on a matching game for young children
This is a "mixed up" matching game where you use the thick animal tile heads and bodies to create animals that don't exist - ex an owl head with a frog body. To play the game you flip a game card, find it's matching card on the tile animals and make the sound of the other animal. In the above example, if you flip a frog body, the first person to hoot like an owl wins the card. This game can easily be modified to be played with younger children who may find the above rules too complicated. You could simply put out the head tiles and just play with the body tiles and have the kids match them or vice versa. If playing with toddlers, I would recommend sticking to just using the tiles as a game variation - the playing cards feel a little thin and I suspect they could easily be bent or torn by a destructive child.

Great for Our 4-Year-Old and Game Independence
This is a game that our 4-year-old can set up all by herself. It's also silly and fun - who doesn't love making animal noises? Or making Napoleon-Dynamite-style mixed up animals? It also has two different "rounds" - one in which you find the animal's face and make the sound that the face makes, and another, harder one in which you have to make the sound of the animal by looking only at its body and feet. So there is some level of challenge here that is fun and takes it beyond a basic game. It's a great first game for kids! A round takes 10 minutes, and set up and clean up are a breeze, and can be done by our kid without any help from me. Another solid win from Haba.

HABA Mixalotl: Fast-Paced Animal Matching Game for Kids
This is a cute game with a pretty easy set up! It took my 4 year old a little bit to catch on, but after playing it one time through she got the hang of it! The gist of it is you have to be the fastest person to say the sound of the opposite body part of the one shown on the card drawn (head or body). It won’t match the animal body part on the card, which is what makes it a little trickier. Then you have the axolotl cards in there to mix things up (whoever grabs the axolotl figure first wins that round). Overall it’s a cute game that gets kids brains thinking! The thing I like the least about it is how it’s a competitive game that pits kids against each other, and it isn’t turn based. I could see kids getting pretty frustrated playing this because if you have a kid who is better at this game, they’re likely going to win every round. And if you’re a parent playing with a kid, you really need to feign ignorance or you’ll obviously win every time and that’s not super fun. I guess I just prefer games that you take turns for. But, for a competitive game that’s not turn based, this is a lighthearted one! I think this game would definitely be best for kids playing together, or an adult with multiple kids. One adult (or more) with just one child playing can be a little underwhelming. Something else to note is that it’s also a good size for traveling with (it would easily fit into a sandwich bag, and possibly even a snack size bag). Overall, the quality of the game is good, and I’d recommend it if you like competitive games!
