Hatchimal Pixie Flyers are essentially drones
Purchased the Hatchimal Pixie Flyers (both pink and purple) for my child thinking this was a toy. It turns out that these things are slightly short of being an effective surveillance weapon for the military. My teenage son discovered that if you turn on the pixie and place it in the launch pad but hold down the pixie for 30 seconds with your index finger, you can launch the pixie between 20 to 30 feet vertically. When he figured this out and launched the pixie, I ended up chasing the "toy" down the block and had to recover the pixie from a neighbor's yard. That ended the fun in our yard. Instead, we took the pixies to the local soccer field and played with them their to witness their full potential. We recorded vertical heights of 20 to 30 feet and horizontal flights of anywhere from 100 to 300 yards depending on wind pattern and potential lift. The pixies worked most effectively in light or no breeze conditions. Not only did my youngest child play with these but so did my 13 and 22 year old, as well as myself (48 year old father). Very durable design. Pixies took many strikes but were easily repaired and on their way again. Most common repair is the replacement of the plastic skirting which snaps into place easily due to the well thought out design. Full charge is achieved in one hour. Charging cables are included.

Flying fairy
This toy exceeded expectations. The fairy is fragile, but durable enough for child's play. Amazing watching it fly around.

A little scary but fun!
If you get this it is important to know that it's very unpredictable! You can make it go higher by placing your hand or an object directly underneath. You can potentially change the speed at which it flies by how fast you move your hand in its path. It is semi random in the direction it goes, it seems kind of influenced by the direction in which you place your hand under it in order to make it fly higher. So if you slide your hand from the right to the left, it will often head to the left. But sometimes it just goes up or in other directions. If you need to grab it to redirect it's trajectory, grab it from the side around the legs. It you try to grab from the bottom it just flies out of reach. If you grab the legs, it's less likely to hit you with the wings, which spin really fast! It does hurt a little if it runs into you but it's not exceptionally painful or too awful. The unpredictable nature of it's flight and the fact that it does hurt a bit and frequently crashes into things (including you) makes it a tad terrifying. If it does crash, it will need to be turned off and back on again in order to reset it. Otherwise, it just blinks at you and won't fly. However scary and unpredictable it may be, my toddler, adult kid, husband and myself all laugh hysterically (mainly because the toddler's laugh is infectious) as this crazy toy crashes all around the house. It's easy to recharge (comes with the cord, standard USB), pretty sturdy considering how many times it's run into my walls, soft enough that it hasn't damaged my walls or my family, and my kids love it! So all in all, I call it a win!

Kids are having a blast with this, needs more sensors
8 year old niece loves this. And her younger and older brothers and sisters are also very excited and entertained by it. Though it doesn’t have sensors on top or sides, so it crashes into stuff and the wings fall off. There’s a sensor on the bottom. If you put your hand under it, it goes up. So far it’s surviving the crashes and the wings go back on.

Disappointing and flawed design
This was a birthday gift for my daughter, but I ended up taking her to choose something else at the store because we were both very dissatisfied with the product. The concept of a hovering, "flying" pixie-themed toy is nice and my fairy-crazy child was very interested - hence the birthday gift purchase. While the detailing of the doll is decent and the crystal-y egg storage compartment is pretty (though bulky and hard to open), the actual function of the toy left something to be desired. The power switch is located on the underside of the "skirt" section and is quite small, making it difficult to turn on and off with the various wing-blade sections flopping in the way. It is just plain awkward to handle. The instructions actually say that to stop the pixie you can either wait for it to run out of battery OR catch it by the legs. Just catch it by the legs, no further instruction. Well, catching it by the legs does nothing except leave you with rapidly rotating plastic in close proximity to your hand. It will not turn off if it is tipped over, only if the wings come in contact with something such as when it crashes. So let it crash or let it run out of battery if it miraculously stays airborne for that long. If it does crash, you need to switch it off and then on again if you want to have another flight - at least it has that safety feature. But here's the biggest reason we ended up ditching it, 9 times out of 10 it wouldn't take off properly. The base has a little metal prong that the pixie's feet lightly slot onto and you are supposed to launch it from there (trying to toggle the power switch then get your hand out of the way before it starts spinning 6 seconds later). Well, ours must be bent ever so slightly because the pixie leans just a few degrees when on the base...and then takes off at an angle, skittering to a swift crash landing before it can even get a foot of height. On the occasion we do get it to launch upward, it is difficult to "direct" in any way because it only senses a hand placed directly underneath it and there are no controls otherwise. It is not long for the air before inevitably banking into a wall. It says "crash resistant" but I wonder how much it can take before damage shows. Then as if to mock us, it began just getting stuck on the base and wouldn't take off at all, sideways or otherwise. It just spun like a noisy mechanical ballerina. I know I'm sounding snarky, but it really was disappointing to have a gift that didn't perform to reasonable expectations straight out of the box. Since we removed and tossed the shrink-wrapped label packaging I'm pretty sure we can't return it so I'm out that purchase plus the cost of finding another gift. And before you assume we were rough with it, my child is several years older than the recommended minimum age and I was also monitoring and assisting as we tried to give it the best chance to succeed - it just wasn't a good product and ultimately I wanted her to have something she could actually enjoy instead of this ill-conceived pseudo-drone. SO, buyer beware. In my opinion, this is a gimmicky fail that has very little reliability or fun factor in actual use.

For children who are extremely careful
I’m giving five star because I feel a lot of the reviews Here are very unfair. A lot of them come from Canadian or American kids who are usually very clumsy with their toys. My mom had bought this for me for Easter. Yes, I’m a grown adult but I was a 90s kid and she knew I love sky dancers so she bought this for me as a surprise. My son and I love to play with it. However, it is extremely fragile. The batteries do not last long maybe 10 minutes or so. However, it does only take five minutes to charge. Yes, the wings fall off If it hits too hard however, the wings do snap back on quite easily. However, I do have small children over for Easter. My second cousins mostly. Summer from Portugal and Italy. And ones from here in Canada. They have been playing with it with me and my son, and I noticed that my cousins born here in Canada are much more aggressive with it. But my family over from Europe their children are playing with it properly. Basically what I’m saying is it is a fragile toy. It’s not meant for kids to be slamming or throwing into walls or any of that stuff. If you play with it properly, it’s a wonderful toy! My son and some of my aunts and their kids and I have been playing with them for hours and having a great time!
